Privacy Policy for Footval
Footval is a football companion app: live scores, World Cup 2026 coverage, statistics leaderboards, transfer news, and our own explainable player valuations. This Privacy Policy describes what limited data the App handles, how it is used, and the third-party services involved. The App requires no account to use — sign-in is entirely optional.
1. Introduction
Footval ("we," "our," or "the App") provides football data, news, and player valuations for informational and entertainment purposes. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling data in accordance with applicable data protection laws, including the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), and Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK). The App is designed to collect as little personal data as possible: you can browse matches, the World Cup, statistics, rankings, and news without registering, and we do not offer in-app purchases or subscriptions.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Optional Sign-In: Signing in is not required to use the App. If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive basic profile information from your Google account — your name, email address, and profile photo — solely to identify your session. We never receive your Google password.
- Preferences: Settings you choose in the App, such as your language and notification preferences.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Analytics & Usage Data: Through Google Firebase Analytics we collect anonymized usage information such as screens viewed, features used, session length, app version, device model, operating-system version, and general region. This helps us understand how the App is used and improve it. It is not used to personally identify you.
- Push Notification Token: If you allow push notifications, Firebase Cloud Messaging assigns your device a messaging token so we can deliver match, World Cup, and transfer alerts. We send notifications to broad topics (e.g. "all," "World Cup," "matches," "transfers") rather than to individually identified users, and we do not maintain a database of device tokens.
- Diagnostic Data: Basic crash and performance information that helps us fix bugs and keep the App stable.
2.3 Information Stored Locally on Your Device
The following is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to us:
- Language preference and other in-app settings.
- Cached content (such as recently viewed matches and fixtures) so screens load quickly.
You can clear this data at any time by clearing the App's data or uninstalling the App.
2.4 What We Do NOT Collect
- No payment or billing information (the App has no in-app purchases or subscriptions)
- No precise location (no GPS tracking)
- No contacts, calendar, photos, microphone, or camera access
- No SMS, call logs, or health data
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the limited information described above to:
- Provide and display football data, scores, statistics, valuations, and news
- Remember your preferences, such as language
- Deliver push notifications you have opted into
- Authenticate your session if you choose to sign in
- Understand usage and improve the App's features, performance, and stability
- Diagnose and fix crashes and technical problems
- Comply with legal obligations
4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or UK, we process your data based on:
- Consent: For optional sign-in, push notifications, and analytics where consent is required
- Legitimate Interests: To operate, secure, and improve the App in a way that does not override your rights
- Legal Obligation: Where required by law
5. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited data only with the service providers that make the App work:
- Google Firebase (Google LLC): Provides analytics, cloud messaging (push notifications), and optional authentication. Their processing is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Sign-In: If you choose to sign in, Google processes your sign-in according to its own policy.
- Apple / Google (App Stores): When you download the App, the relevant app store processes the download according to its own policy.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information where required by law, court order, or to protect our rights, safety, or property.
6. Football Data and Content
The matches, fixtures, statistics, player profiles, valuations, transfer news, and other football content shown in the App are sourced from public football data and our own valuation model, and are delivered through our backend (api.footval.com). This content is about teams, players, and competitions — it is public sporting information and is not personal data about you, the user. Player valuations are our own independent estimates for informational purposes and may differ from market or transfer figures.
7. Data Retention
- Local data on your device: Kept until you clear the App's data or uninstall the App.
- Analytics data: Retained in aggregated/anonymized form according to Firebase's retention settings.
- Optional sign-in data: Retained only while you use sign-in; you may request deletion (see Your Rights).
8. Data Security
We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS) and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Your Rights (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, KVKK)
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal exceptions
- Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Object or Restrict: Object to or request restriction of certain processing
- Withdraw Consent: Where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time (e.g. disable notifications or analytics, or sign out)
- Opt Out of Sale/Sharing: We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising
- Non-Discrimination: You will not be discriminated against for exercising your rights
- Complain: Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in your country
To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law (e.g., 30 days under GDPR/CCPA).
10. International Transfers
Your data may be processed in countries outside your residence, including by Google/Firebase. Where data is transferred from the EEA or UK, appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses or adequacy decisions) are relied upon.
11. Push Notifications
With your permission, we send push notifications about matches, the World Cup, transfers, and news via topic-based messaging. You can disable notifications at any time in your device or app settings; doing so does not affect your ability to use the rest of the App.
12. Children's Privacy
Footval is a general-audience football app and is not directed primarily at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The App contains no chat or user-to-user social features. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes to the App or legal requirements. We will update the "Last Updated" date below and, where required by law, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
14. Contact Us
Disclaimer: Footval provides football data, statistics, and independent player valuations for informational and entertainment purposes only. Valuations are our own estimates and do not represent official transfer fees or financial advice.
